According to the National Retail Federation, return fraud is a $30 Billion dollar per year hardship to retailers and manufacturers. Consumers pay the ultimate price, quite literally, with higher prices for the products we buy.

SIRAS is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nintendo of America Inc. and the SIRAS program includes patented business methodologies for tracking products – not people - throughout the Sales Lifecycle to help prevent unwarranted returns and fraud.

SIRAS is integrated into retailer Point-of-Sale (POS) systems and activates specific items for serial number capture. Retailers transmit the product serial numbers and transaction information to the SIRAS national database and SIRAS appends the return policy and manufacturer warranty information to each item file. Additionally the item serial number prints on the customer sales receipt.

At the return counter, the POS registers do a live query to the SIRAS database where the product is validated for return. Eligible returns are processed seamlessly. Returns of stolen items, old product, and even cross-retailer returns are prevented.

Retailers and manufacturers can also utilize the POS information in a variety of different ways such as in improving customer service call times (with instant purchase validation) and in determining warranty eligibility.
